We had a wonderful 12 day vacation, ending in 5 days camping on the beach in Carlsbad, CA. But, more on that later. I have over 1700 pictures to go through.
We got home Sat. night at 10:30ish p.m. I walked in the house to the overwhelming smell of mildew and the sound of water running. My heart dropped. Blake rushed to the kitchen while I ran downstairs to turn the water off. Turned out a valve under our sink broke, who knows when, and was leaking for days and days. Such a simple no big deal thing to fix will cost us thousands in damages. Our basement flooded. The ceiling fell down in our basement bathroom, the laundry room wall is gone and parts of the laundry room ceiling. The carpet is gone, there is damage in our guest room. The only basement room that escaped damage is my boy's room. We were lucky. The water leaked above where the drain for our laundry room and bathroom is, so there was never enough water to damage furniture or my treadmill.
As I am sure you can imagine I went into panic mode. I called my sister in law and she came right over and took the kids. We got a restoration company over, they handle everything from repairing the plumbing damage to the finishing touches. Luckily homeowners will cover this.
I love owning my own home, but at times like this its so stressful and I think, wouldn't it be easier to hand it over to someone else?
As of right now we are living in a hotel. There are 18 industrial fans going in our house trying to dry it out. At least until Thurs. We can't live there with the fans. The noise, the smell, not to mention they aren't the safest fans with my kids.
There are definitely pluses to living in a hotel. They cook breakfast. I just have to get my kids down before 9:30am. We have a pool. When I leave to run errands I come back to a room where the trash has been taken out, fresh towels and my bed made for me. Heaven. I do have the stress of 4 kids contained in a small room, trying to keep them from driving the people around us crazy. Despite the comfortable bed and nice breakfasts, it will be nice to be back in our own home. Hopefully soon!
