i haven't posted on my blog in ages so here is an update. i am in the hospital writing this which is why all my i's are lowercase, the i key doesn't work on my laptop.
My baby was born 1/22 by csec. He is 7 lbs 1 oz and 20.5 inches, which is so teeny for me. He still doesn't have a name, poor boy. Blake and i are having a silent fight over this one. We are each hoping the other will give in. i think i am getting close to winning. He has been in the nicu because of fast breathing, which turned out to be a bacterial pneumonia in his lungs. Below is an update on him.
i got to hold my sweet boy tonight finally. My sister in law was with me and she took lots of pictures so when she emails them to me i will post them.
i finally think i know what has gone on with my poor boys. The specialist explained to me that some woman can get a bacteria while they are pregnant that the baby can get from the pregnancy. it is nothing that can be tested for or nothing they can do anything about. it is similar to the strep b thing they always test for, except there are hundreds of possible bacterias and no way of testing for them or preventing them. So, its very likely that i carry something or i am prone to something that has made my boys sick. Something that i am unable to fight. Every indication is that his sickness is bacterial pneumonia, which is better than something viral because antibiotics will take care of it. While i am pregnant and doing all the work for the babies this bacteria does not harm them but as soon as they are born they can't seem to fight it off, which is why they get sick so quickly, like within 30 min. of birth. She told me if i had more babies the possibility of this happening is fairly high. i am very thankful for modern medicine and to have this baby in a hospital with a wonderful nicu.
The baby will be in the hospital until probably Wed., i will be released on Sat. it will be hard but i know he will be ok. Elijah was ok. He is getting fed what i have pumped for the first time tonight. So hopefully that will go well. Also, i was told to not take him to church or the grocery store for 6 months. She said that if he gets anything in the next year it will dramatically raise his asthma risk, so that right there explains why Elijah has asthma. i am hoping to hang on to my piano calling at church so hopefully they will be willing to work with me. i spoke to my RS pres about playing every other week because Blake plays every other week in primary so we can take turns.
Anyway, i know this is a lot to read so thanks for reading it. He is a strong, determined boy, the nurses saying they are amazed at how strong he is and how well he is doing considering how his lungs look. i know there is some reason he needed to be with us right now and so i know he will ok. Now hopefully i can survive this.
